SOLITUDE

Sangita Ekka, May 4, 2019October 11, 2021

A warm afternoon and I presumed it was late for pending rays of sunset to filter its yellow through the brick red curtains hanging down in the adjacent room and produce a faint afterglow of the same hue in a paled blued room. I was sitting in the center and for company I had those elemental children of nature who remain hidden unless seen. There was a holder to place incense sticks in a darker space in-front of me and I could see the distinguished orangish glow, making it almost acceptable that I would, in future which was only a few moments away, bear the air it has put the fragrance into. I waited, because it would be here, near me, the fragrance; the fire of which is the only thing I could see in that dark.

Everything is a child of consequence which in turn is the bastard child of choices. Consequences left in the distant past play efficient roles in impregnating the very now to set the next milestone for Everything.

The fragrance never reached me. It was carried away by a faint gush of wind which I was allowing to pass through a window I had left opened. But amazing is the very nature of nature. She takes one thing and gives something in return that leaves us spellbound in contemplating her mystery, her womb. I found a faint glow slowly gaining strength, saturating to a more yellow tone with each passing second.

The gush of wind had paused. The final rays of that day’s sunset were boldly marching into my room in a straight line fashion leaving behind a trail of dancing dusts along every path they had followed. I am always fascinated to anything that glows and offers warmth. I am a lover of light. A few moments and then I saw the fragrance that had left its warm orangish home and had taken role for brilliant and bold display of formless grey smokes that appeared in the light and almost unborn before it. No trace, perhaps like the beginning of beginnings that the great minds of today try to put in words in a vague attempt of understanding it. I saw the smokes dance in the light that I had almost presumed won’t care to brighten up my room. I was lying there, mesmerized by dance of air veiled in smoke…

I came to my senses when the orange spark had extinguished and had taken with it the dance of the smokes. The light was still there, in a mood perhaps to linger a little bit more. This time I followed the light and my steps stopped behind a closed door. I had my answer. The light had already begun to fade. I opened the door and welcomed the air in. I gazed at the sky which was still bearing the red of the sun and blue of its infinity.

There is always a dark room which is set alight by a ray of hope. Follow it and open the door to a bigger room which welcomes the light and the dark with warmth and grace.

On 22nd Sept 2019, while I was peacefully nestled in Hotel Keylinga in Manali, enjoying the view of the mountains from big glass windows, I had little idea what to expect for the next 5 days even after religiously following the daily emails sent by Indiahikes team.    Few months…

DEATH

May 11, 2019October 11, 2021

A person can die between the pages of a notebook and still keep breathing. This death is mercy. The existence is fired up. Smokes do not carry the traces of burnt words. The last moments are breathed out in a hiss as fire slowly devours the ink. There must have…
