Animation has evolved over the years and characters have taken shape from being on papers to graphics. Better computers, better rendering capacity, powerful softwares and the immortal passion of making art have made this art form grow in leaps and bounds. In the era of 3D glasses and crisp graphics, stop motion animation is a rarity.
Few days back I watched a video on Facebook shared by INSIDER art and I was reconnected to my favorite animation style. Coraline, Mary and Max, Nightmare before Christmas are some of the names that have occupied my “All Time Favorite” list. All of them have one thing in common -the painstaking and amazing process of stop motion animation.
Kubo and the two strings is a celebration of storytelling. It takes nothing less than magic for a creator’s creations to breathe and that is wonderfully depicted throughout. You will feel all the emotions, predictability takes a backseat here but what makes this movie one of the finest is that it adds another milestone to what human touch is capable of accomplishing.
When Disney Pixar’s Inside Out was done blowing my mind, I noticed that not a single person had left his/her seat to skip the closing credits. They were glued! Pixar had done something beyond excellence and its residual impact is something that will be etched on art lovers souls for a lifetime. I thought “that’s it”. There can be nothing out there that can venture into creativity and bring out surprises that can shake me to the core, make me feel alive!
Kubo proved me wrong. It is just “different” and cannot be described. I am tempted to put screenshots and quotes from the movie but watching a movie is a joyous and personal experience, and any sort of spoiler just kills the beauty of wonder.
So watch it. This is one story you must know.
