KINTSUKUROI

Sangita Ekka, May 12, 2019October 11, 2021

From the hearth of eternal flames, where the blacksmith of the universe toiled, another masterpiece was forged and kept aside the previous one. He was elated at his achievement; so blissed, that some dark corners of his universe witnessed the rare phenomenon of birth of twin stars. He took this as an omen. Of all his creations that had either breathed or forever danced in the cosmos, these will hold his greatest sense of design.

He took a deep look at his recent creation, almost identical, almost unique, almost alive. In all the previous loops of creation and destruction, man and woman were never this perfect; the sacred trinity of mind, body and soul entwined in right measures.

God couldn’t have wished for more.

He gazed at his work. Almost alive. Almost…

He had created starts and suns and planets that stood like prized pieces at his gallery. He had created time to witness his greatness and mystery. And yet, none of them were, what he craved to create the most – life.

He sat there for eons, thinking about the essence of life and in one sudden moment of creative inspiration, pulled himself back, put his creations in-front of fire and dug earth.

He rolled his wheel, shaped the mud, watered it and created replica of his prized creation. Muddy and fragile. Imperfect.

He held them in his hands, dried them with his warmth, looked at them intently for a moment and then smashed them on the ground.

The pieces broke, shattered to hopelessness. It was then, he brought out the essence of life he had bottled and forgotten. Piece by piece he put them together, the golden essence binding them, filling them with life, making them breathe…

Proud for a moment, humbled in another and like a collector, he placed them on the safest corner of his shelf.

The cosmos danced that night. In the massive space of limitless lifelessness, a spark had born between a man, a woman and their limited time to love.

His design was now an art.
