STRIKE 1,2 AND 3… I WON!!!

Sangita Ekka, January 22, 2019May 12, 2019

I used to think that things can somewhat go wrong with me but now I am absolutely sure that things can go very wrong with me. Chaos is creative and not to forget sequential as well! How a minute of carelessness can generate hours of shit; I learnt the best… surrounded with some 60 more people!!!

31st August 2011

Exactly this day was the BIG BANG of events! It was a holiday on the holy day of Eid, a festival I love being an Indian and to be true; more than Christmas. Am not a pure atheist; somewhere inside; 0.1% of me believes in “GOD”. Well, just like my past Eid, I was too excited! Though I cannot pray in a mosque but can at-least taste the delicacies prepared by my loving friends!

It was around 4 pm and 2 friends dropped at home. After the regular session of hugs and high-fives we were finally spitting out ill about each other’s college under the same university. And then it started…

The cellphone rang and the blood sucker darling on the other side was mumbling! Engineering life made me bolder; and now I am afraid of only two words- “RESULTS OUT!!!” The one who has the habit of smiling even on the adversities of poor marks was now FURIOUS on being FUCKED up by the grade “F” that cries out “FAIL!!” aloud!! (Very loud!!!)  “What the F!?!?!” was now having a double meaning blending with the double dangers existent in my home- mom and the mom like- mom’s sis! Thanks a ton to the double droppers; both the mouths were so painstakingly screaming low that I planned to flung the place…

The duo was now a trio and hence it helped. The sequence of chores to be executed was planned to pass hell lot of time. After having a yummy mutton Biryani and some sweet Sewaiyaan at a dear friend’s place, I brought back one companion to home that night (purposefully) and as soon as the clock struck 6 in the morning, both of us boarded the bus that was ready to carry me away from my “VERY VERY ANGRY” mom!

All the desperate attempts for the escape finally resulted into a marvellous one day stay at my best friend’s house, followed by another 5 damp hour journey back to hostel and when I was finally comfortable at my so needed away place, I realised that I had left my necessary documents for placement sessions at home….

STRIKE 1!!!

7 days later…
Wait a second…What the hell was I doing till this?? Nothing! Didn’t even bother to get back home and get it!! Err… Leave it!!It was my first campus written test with the highest ever package (don’t count IITs, Stan’s or Howard’s) but still higher than any other company about to visit my campus and there I was; without I-card, without registration card or any other thing that could prove me- “ME”. 11 A.M and all pallid-faced people were assembled in a room without a hint of what questions they were going to face. I was with a difference; not even having an idea whether I was allowed for that or not!!

Just a few minutes before the test could begin I was asked to bring verification from my HOD to prove to the recruiting company that I belonged to my college. Was it easy?? Of course!!! I only had to jump a few stairs lying haphazard in the 100 acre campus plus some tantrums from my department plus some more students with the same I-card problem and yes some scolding!!

Finally, I got the signature, climbed back the same haphazard stairs and reached my seat with my “just proved identity” in one hand, my heavy bag on the other and a smile that was wide enough to make all the seated people think as if I was already recruited!!!

Then began the test!! Logical Reasoning?? Burr… I have a hell lot of it. But perhaps the questions didn’t know that!! Whatever… I was happy with what I performed. Next what?? C++, Java, .net… Wait… What?!?! .net?? Leave those 30 questions alone!! I always think… correction… I always thought that I am a good programmer and the questions, even of the other two subjects, I thought I knew; slap cleared my mirage!!

It was difficult to withstand a second in that silently chaotic room and the “invigilators-ringmasters” were making us sit and perform like lions!! Total bullshit!! Silent sarcastic smiles were projected from one corner to the other and it was the only source of relief that told us- “HE DOESN’T KNOW THAT EITHER!!! PHEW!!!”…

A hall full of zombies and the dead silence was finally broken by a sound that one expects the least. The girl behind my seat vomited over her entire answer sheet!! YES!! FOR THE QUESTION PAPER LIKE THAT; PUKE WAS THE PERFECT ANSWER!! I wished I had done that. Lucky her; she was allowed to leave the room.

Finally when everything was over I was finished! The subjects that I thought I am strongest at; had now left me hanging with a question – “Sure??”!!

STRIKE 2!!!

22 Sept 2011
Relax! By this time I was having my documents! I am not that careless!!

A day before this; another company, another written test and hence another chaotic sequence!! BUT PERHAPS, ADVERSITIES HAPPEN ONLY TO MAKE THE BEST HAPPEN NEXT. And this is something that’s not sarcastic! May be the last to be declared, but my name was in the list of those who cleared the written test…

I had qualified for my PI and the time did come; this day! A small introduction and I could make out that the HR was perhaps happy with my CV. “You have good computer proficiencies!!”… Okay, he was impressed. Overall I had a good PI and it felt really nice to meet a person like him. May not the best but it felt that perhaps I had cleared the needed PI of my life…

5 P.M and I was lying leisurely on my bed; tired and sleepless; two insomniac combination. Cell phone rang and this time another blood sucker darling said clearly- “RESULTS TO BE OUT!!”…

I got up with my other PI appeared friends, dressed in a minute, hired an auto in the next 2 and reached college by another 15. The same orientation room that witnessed our welcome was now filled with familiar faces. Formally dressed and haggard everyone was waiting for the MOMENT. All eyes were fixed on the entry and exit doors. A small movement through them and ripples of excitement ran through everybody’s veins.

7:30 P.M and finally the mikes had someone to speak to it for a hundred pair of ears. One after another, the names were declared and somewhere in the middle declared- SANGITA EKKA. Yes!! I got my first job and this feeling made me HAPPY, TEARFUL and PROUD!!

3 STRIKES!!
Life is a game but perhaps not a baseball game. You make your own rules!!YOU CAN WIN AT STRIKE 3!!!

Third, fourth, fifth attempt! It was still asking me the same question! Forgot password?? No way!! Either Zuckerberg had developed FB to show this for calling his creation a dumbass or it was me who was carefully typing wrong passwords!Either of the thoughts now seemed dwarfing before my third terrible hunch.

SOLITUDE

May 4, 2019October 11, 2021

I came to my senses when the orange spark had extinguished and had taken with it the dance of the smokes. The light was still there, in a mood perhaps to linger a little bit more. This time I followed the light and my steps stopped behind a closed door. I had my answer. The light had already begun to fade. I opened the door and welcomed the air in. I gazed at the sky which was still bearing the red of the sun and blue of its infinity.

WORTH IT!

I have met some really amazing people who have introduced me to that sphere of life I was left without. It is true to fall in love in a few days. To fall in love with new friends, to fall in love with a new job, to fall in love with new challenges, to fall in love with everything and anything that comes between sun rise and sun set; and most importantly falling in love with the true self you just met a few days back. The real you.The untainted, the non judged, the believer, the loser, the winner!
