Only a child inspired artwork

Only a child is a powerful short film on climate crisis

Sangita Ekka, December 9, 2021June 26, 2024

Severn Cullis Suzuki was only 12 when she delivered a powerful speech at Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in 1992, her words still reverberating with the truth of the climate crisis. Only a child by Simone Giampaolo is inspired by a powerful interpretation of her speech which is meaningful, beautiful, and hurtful, all at once.

Arts make an impact, draw attention, and shift the perception where it’s truly needed. Multiple artists came together for this short film and interpreted the anguish of a 12-year-old in their own styles, delivering a very powerful message as a whole.

It highlights and reiterates the truth that the climate crisis is real, for all of us, and we can neither afford more time nor another planet. Decades later after an iconic speech delivered at one of the world’s prominent podiums, we are still at war with ourselves.

Only a child is one of the most poignant works of art that I have watched in a long time. It shows terrifying truths but also – hope with a childlike enthusiasm for a better tomorrow.

The short film has bagged multiple awards from film festivals around the globe. I wish more people would find this short film, watch, share and take action.

Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget is a creative extravaganza

January 20, 2024

Chicken Run is one of the first movies that introduced me to stop-motion animation. This film was released in the mid-2000s, and I took another decade to watch it. Immediately captured by the freedom struggle of farm chickens and their headstrong leader – Ginger, Chicken Run has silently stayed on…
